The aim of this study was to determine the effect of suspension training on agility and strength performance in elite male U-21 basketball players from a Turkish basketball club. The study involved 20 volunteer players with age of 18.3 ± 0.3 years; training age of 6.5 ± 1.3 years; height of 189.45 ± 7.3 cm; weight of 82.9 ± 7.8 kg and body mass index of 23 ± 1.3. This single group served as both a control and an experimental group. After the first tests, the group participating in the study continued their regular training routine for 6 weeks. After six weeks, the second measurements were taken. These measurements were also accepted as the last measurement of the group that was considered as the control group, and the first measurement of the test group. Subsequently, suspension training (TRX) was performed twice a week along with basketball training for 6 weeks. At the end of six weeks, the tests were repeated and the development level of the test group was determined. Right and left hip flexion tests, sitting flexibility tests, standing long jump tests, vertical jump tests, back and leg strength tests, T tests and 20-meter sprint tests were performed in the study group. The obtained data were analyzed in the SPSS program and descriptive statistics, Anova tests and Bonferroni correction were performed. These analyses found a significant difference in hip flexion, jump, strength and agility tests (p < 0.05).

– Significant changes in left and right active hip flexion and flexibility in the study showed that since the movements in suspension training are performed with large angles, the joint motion spacing and flexibility were also improved. In other words, the joint function was increased. When the joint motion is too much, the tendons have a more angular effect. It can be considered that the TRX training conducted in the study increased the joint motion range with angular eccentric contraction resulting in increased flexibility.
– A significant difference in standing long jump and vertical jump after TRX training parallels the strength development of the core, back and leg muscles that contribute to jumping performance, and is also an important factor in sports that require speed and explosive strength. Suspension movements increase balance with force, resulting in increased muscle innervation, thus leading to a significance in the positive direction in 20-meter speed.
– The significant effects on agility performance of pelvic and lower limb movements of the right and left legs, particularly for changes of direction, are highlighted.
